The Ronin Spirit – A Musical Warrior Without Borders
Much like the legendary ronin of Japan—masterless samurai who wandered in search of purpose—Zig Ronin roams the world, crafting a sound unbound by geography or genre. His journey, spanning multiple continents and cultures, has shaped his artistic vision into one that is fluid, ever-evolving, and deeply connected to the human experience. "Every place I have been has planted a seed in me—a seed of creativity, of new visions and tastes," he reflects. Prima facie, his music is an eclectic mix of influences, but at its core, it is a testament to resilience, adaptability, and the unwavering pursuit of artistic truth.
A Life in Motion: Musical and Cultural Influences
From an early age, Zig Ronin was driven by an insatiable curiosity. Growing up in Quito, Ecuador, he often wondered about the world beyond the mountains that surrounded his hometown. That same spirit of discovery now fuels his music. "There are so many ways to create sounds—there’s no wrong or right, only when you are lying to yourself," he explains. His openness to new sounds, cultures, and collaborations allows him to craft music that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Relocating to Dubai in 2022 was a pivotal moment in Zig Ronin’s career, offering him a fresh surge of energy and inspiration. "Dubai is a young city with immense potential, including in the arts. It has inspired me to create an album, collaborate more, and produce new artists." His experience in Dubai has been marked by an openness he hadn’t expected. "The artistic community here is incredibly welcoming—perhaps because many expats long for connection. This makes Dubai a fertile ground for creative synergy."
Beyond his personal musical projects, Zig Ronin is working on an ambitious initiative—a Dubai-NYC artistic bridge, developed in collaboration with award-winning American producer David Sisko. "We aim to create an independent music community that connects local and expat artists in the UAE with musicians in New York and beyond." This initiative reflects his belief that "anything is possible because of the potential, creativity, and innovative thinking of artists and strategic partners in the UAE."
Another exciting endeavor involves recording traditional Arabic instruments for a major international brand after Ramadan. "I’m searching for exceptional instrumentalists who excel at improvisation—artists who can bring authentic sounds to this global project."
The Art of Creation: A Process Without Borders
For Zig Ronin, creativity is not a rigid formula—it’s an organic, ever-changing experience. "You cannot create art without being free—including freedom from your own doubts and insecurities. This is a lifelong journey." His compositions emerge in a multitude of ways:
• Voice improvisation
• Melodies on a MIDI keyboard
• Lyrics that arrive spontaneously
• Guitar chords he plays instinctively, without formal knowledge
• Rhythms developed on drums, phones, or laptops
• Inspiration drawn from books, scripts, or even random conversations
"Options for creativity are infinite," he insists. However, he acknowledges the need for discipline: "If you stop exercising, you lose it." Balancing freedom with structured consistency is key to his artistic process.

Resilience: The Key to Longevity in Music
Zig Ronin is acutely aware of the challenges that come with a career in music.
"Music is not a speed race; it’s a marathon...."
...Whoever resists and endures the most reaches the goal—whatever that goal may be." He has faced numerous obstacles, including those he subconsciously imposes on himself. However, his perspective is one of growth: "Obstacles are always going to be there; the key is to see them as learning opportunities."
One of the most defining challenges he faced was the quarantine of 2020, a period that drastically altered the music industry. Unable to perform live or connect with his band, he turned to songwriting as a form of therapy. "Music saved me, as always. Remembering why I do music and reconnecting with that childhood passion kept me mentally sane."
Beyond Music: The Lessons of a Nomadic Life
Zig Ronin views travel as more than a means of exploration—it is a fundamental part of personal growth. "I encourage people to step outside their comfort zones, to listen to different sounds, eat different foods, see different landscapes, even love differently." He believes that experiencing other cultures fosters humility, empathy, and a broader perspective on life.

"Being on tour or traveling makes you realize that not everything is about you. While you’re struggling, someone else is facing far greater hardships. As artists, we have the power to be their voice." This awareness has deeply influenced his music and the way he interacts with the world.
Despite his demanding schedule, Zig Ronin prioritizes balance—both in his personal life and career.
"There are 24 hours in a day; if you organize yourself, you can give time to everything that truly matters."
He manages stress through simple but effective techniques:
• Breathing exercises to calm his thoughts
• Creative outlets like songwriting
• Conversations with close family and friends
• Distractions such as playing video games, watching movies, or going for walks
"Most of the things that stress us out are just in our minds—they are never actually going to happen. Creative minds, in particular, must be vigilant about this."
The Need for Genuine Support
Zig Ronin is passionate about mental health awareness within the music industry but believes it is not taken as seriously as it should be. "It’s often treated as a trend rather than a reality that requires deep attention." He advocates for regular psychological therapy, not just in moments of crisis but as an ongoing practice of self-care.
"Artists are sensitive beings. We absorb the energy around us, which makes mental health support essential. Every artist should have a psychologist as part of their team." He also stresses the importance of knowing one’s limits when helping others: "It’s crucial to recognize when someone truly needs help versus when someone just craves attention. Protecting your own mental health is just as important as supporting others."

Like a ronin wandering in search of purpose, Zig Ronin remains in a constant state of growth, learning, and reinvention. He does not confine himself to one place, one style, or one way of thinking. Instead, he embraces the unknown, understanding that music—like life—is an evolving journey.
“Being truly free, finding balance between mind, body, and spirit—that is what makes you a better musician and artist.”
And so, Zig Ronin continues forward, carrying his music across borders, leaving a legacy that transcends place, time, and genre.
