MMA Champion Alex Lohoré wrestles between music and sports. But there could only be one

Music is a powerful tool used by various athletes to aid in the perfect mindset for conditioning and competing.

The question is, just how powerful is music to an athlete’s performance? The response from several athletes is an astounding: Absolutely!

In recent studies, music has been proven to help athletes reduce feelings of fatigue, improve pain tolerance, mood improvement and motivation. In addition, athletes who tap into the right music find it easier to block out emotions of panic and worry and in some cases redirect their focus to feelings of confidence and success.

MMA fighter Alex Lohoré is no stranger to this exercise, releasing songs inspired by his passion for both music and sports.

What is it about contact sports that you appreciate the most?

I would say what I appreciate the most about contact sports is discipline and the ability to control the mind and emotions. The discipline needed to train consistently and at the highest level even when you don’t feel like it is so rewarding and that feeling carries over into other aspects of life.

What has been your most memorable fight so far?

There are so many to choose from, one that stands out for me was my title fight at the SSE arena in Wembley. The atmosphere, crowd of 10,000 people, the performance and ultimately winning the bamma world title. My last fight in Prague I also really enjoyed, again big arena with a big crowd and a nice win.

Please tell us about your single 'Grown'. How did that come about?

I met MAY a few years back, recently he heard/saw I was doing my own music and reached out to feature on a track. He sent over the beat and his verse, I liked the vibe and just did my thing.

What was your creative process like in writing music?

My creative process is a feeling, I’m more about storytelling, motivation, and awakening. I like mixing it up by using French and English.

Which one gives you a deeper sense of Zen, sports or music?

I would say they work hand in hand, sport and music both give me a deep sense of zen but in different ways. Sport goes back to discipline and control, when training at my level being that focused in itself gives you a sense of zen. The music is a more relaxed kind of zen.

How does your fight strategy translate into your music?

My music keeps me motivated to train to fight and to keep pushing forward.

Any message to aspiring athlete/musician?

The journey can be long, don’t give up, stay determined and most importantly stay disciplined.

'Grown' featuring MAY and 'Motherland' featuring Jay Snaggz are out now on all digital streaming and downloading platform.
