The Timeless Charm of Classic Arabic Songs
Classic Arabic music holds a unique place in the hearts of many, evoking deep nostalgia and cultural pride. The golden era—marked by legendary voices such as Umm Kulthoom, Fayrouz, and Abdel Halim Hafez—produced songs that remain timeless. Their poetic lyrics, intricate melodies, and rich orchestral arrangements continue to captivate audiences across generations. While modern music trends constantly evolve, there is an undeniable charm in the classics that keeps them relevant. One artist committed to preserving and revitalizing this heritage is Karim Moutraji, whose performances bridge the gap between past and present, ensuring these masterpieces live on.

Musical Heritage and Influences
Karim Moutraji is deeply passionate about the golden era of Arabic music, and his performances pay tribute to its lasting legacy. He believes this period represents an unparalleled standard of musical excellence.
"This era holds many memories for my generation, and personally, it was one of the best for music, lyrics, and creativity—I believe it will never be repeated," he shares. "If you ask anyone in the Arab world, they know these songs and still listen to them. They never get old, and you never get bored of them; you keep listening as if it’s the first time."
When selecting songs for his performances, he considers the audience, location, and atmosphere but ultimately follows his instincts. "The secret is—it all depends on the mood, haha! Sometimes, I even change or swap songs on the same day of a performance if I don’t feel the song itself."
His deep appreciation for classic Arabic music stems from his upbringing. Raised in a musically inclined family, he was particularly influenced by his mother, who often sang traditional songs.
"I was inspired by the songs my mom sang, which were very oriental, as well as the songs we learned in school and performed at school concerts," he recalls. This early exposure, coupled with a fascination for the intricate musical arrangements of Tarab, shaped his artistic identity.
"Arabic songs have oriental scales that are not found in Western music, and I want to share this style, especially with the newer generation."
Modernizing the Classics: Creative Process and Collaborations
Despite staying true to the authenticity of classic Arabic music, Karim embraces modern production techniques to make these timeless songs resonate with today’s audiences.
"Music and production have evolved over the years, and I constantly listen to different genres and study their arrangements. I try to incorporate these elements into my songs to attract more listeners and spark their interest in this style of music."
Working with a band of six world-class musicians, he meticulously arranges each performance to ensure the perfect blend of nostalgia and innovation. "I always discuss this with my band to ensure that everything is perfect when performed, allowing the audience to fully understand and enjoy the style."
One of his most memorable moments was performing tributes to legendary Lebanese musicians in their presence. "I have collaborated with various artists and performed tributes to legendary Lebanese musicians, including Elias Al Rahbani and Elie Choueiri."
His journey began in Lebanon, where he performed at numerous gigs, receiving overwhelming positive feedback. This experience fueled his passion and commitment to music.
"Seeing the audience happy and receiving amazing feedback made me even more passionate about this career and motivated me to keep growing."
Challenges and Milestones in His Career
Like any artist, Karim has faced his share of challenges, from logistical setbacks to the pressure of managing his own career.
"As an artist, we constantly face challenges—some minor and some major—some within our control and others beyond it. With experience, you learn to handle as much as possible," he explains.
Managing everything independently adds another layer of complexity to his work. One particularly stressful moment occurred when a crucial piece of equipment was missing right before a major concert.
"At one of my concerts, we had an issue where part of the drum set was missing. I was extremely stressed—it was a crowded, high-season event, and finding a replacement was nearly impossible. By sheer luck, the issue was resolved just an hour before the concert."
Despite such obstacles, his dedication and resilience have led to significant milestones. One of his proudest moments was being featured in the NYE 2024 Festival City Fountain show, where his voice was part of the 12AM performance.

Preserving Authenticity While Engaging New Generations
With a deep reverence for classic Arabic music, Karim carefully balances tradition and modern appeal.
"Classic Arabic music is authentic at its core—from the way it’s performed to the music and lyrics. You won’t find anything quite like it," he says. "I always strive to maintain a balance between authenticity and modernity, incorporating elements and arrangements that appeal to younger generations while still being loved and appreciated by older ones. That’s the secret to keeping these songs modernly authentic."
Exciting Future Projects and Aspirations
Looking ahead, Karim is preparing for an exciting lineup of performances, including his highly anticipated appearance at the Ras Al Khaimah Art 2025 Festival.
"During the RAK Art Festival, it was Cultural Day. In RAK, the audience differs from other places, depending on the type of event. Since it was a cultural day, I focused mainly on Khaleeji songs, selecting the best and most well-known ones that resonate with both Khaleejis and Arab expats, which is very important."
His ability to adapt his setlist to the audience resulted in an electrifying atmosphere.
"The interaction was amazing!
I also mixed in some Lebanese and Egyptian pop songs that are currently trending, which made the audience even more engaged and happy."
Beyond live performances, he is currently working on original music, set to be released after Eid. He will also be performing at the Ramadan Suhoor Tent at Address Montgomerie in Dubai, alongside two highly talented musicians, creating a truly authentic and intimate atmosphere during Suhoor.
"I’m also looking forward to more upcoming gigs, which I’ll be announcing on my Instagram page soon!" he adds enthusiastically.
Conclusion: A Bridge Between Generations
Karim Moutraji stands as a guardian of Arabic musical heritage, ensuring that classic songs continue to thrive while remaining accessible to new generations. His dedication to honoring the past while embracing the future reflects a deep passion for his craft.
As the golden era’s melodies continue to echo through time, his work reminds us that great music—like great art—transcends generations, connecting hearts and cultures in a way that is truly timeless.
