Life experiences bring emotions that the young Dubai-based artist translates into his songs

4TF MOZI, an 18-year-old artist based in Dubai fell in love with music as the only way he felt like could give an escape from the real world.

Growing up timid, he says he never used to express himself. Music helped him channel whatever emotions he was feeling at that certain time. "I was putting it all into my music," he ponders.

The young buck started making music when he was 13. Recording his demos using an iPad and a gaming headset that had a decent mic. "It was gifted to me by a friend of mine and after a year or so, I invested in my first set of equipment, borrowed a friend's laptop and started recording myself in my bedroom, learning how to mix and engineer myself. It was quite a challenge at the start he admits. "It was all new to me but I adjusted in no time and here I am making the music I'm making today," he states. musivv caught up with the artist to talk more about his journey and latest EP 'Agony'.

What do you think of the music scene in Dubai?

I think it's amazing! We have lots of talented artists and the scene is growing slowly and we are going somewhere. It's nice to see artists grow and creative people on the scene there’s lots of talent that need to be shown to the world. I remember like 2018-2019, if you were trying out being an artist here, people would make fun of you. Now, every week someone is trying to make a new song. It's crazy! But we are definitely growing. What's beautiful is that artists are connected and are pushing each other to be better. With that, there’s no stopping our growth with the support of platforms like Rap DXB and musivv that help artists get their music out. Now, the rest is going to be history.

Among the many talented artists in Dubai, who do you want to collaborate with?

I'd say Young Gaby, Ugly Moss, Mo Ed, Seki Supervillain, Gmakkone, Tayeb Santo and Freek.

What is your core message as an artist?

Believe in your art. believe in yourself. Follow your heart. Make the art you want to make even if it doesn’t make sense. Always experiment. Try new things and new sounds. Be unique and most important, be yourself. Have fun with it. It's like painting but instead of using a brush, we artists use our mics and sounds to create the image we have within us.

Tell us about 'Agony'. What's the back story?

Well, I named this EP 'Agony' 'cause of its meaning: intense pain of mind. You could say I was in agony. I was lost as a person and as an artist, I didn’t know what to think due to personal life experiences which made me overthink and I just lost myself inside my mind not knowing how to get out. That suffering you could hear me talk about in the first song of the EP 'Let Me Know.' I was expressing these emotions, letting them out.

What other topic are you passionate about that translates into your music?

Life experiences. What I see and hear inspires me to make music. What I feel at that certain time plays a big part in what type of music I'm going to make. If I feel like making a song that talks about being that person—flexing and being a crazy rockstar—that’s what I'll do. If I feel sad and want to touch hearts and make relatable stuff that I knew people are going to feel then I do that. I'm really versatile with it and I believe it's shown in my project 'Agony'.
