He's accomplished more in a short period than most people do in a lifetime. He has conquered Broadway, where he starred as Young Charlie in the Tony Award-winning musical Kinky Boots. Just a few weeks ago, he premiered his new single, called “Fool,” available on all music platforms. Jake wrote, produced, and played drums and piano on one of his songs called "Things Don't Mean A Thing." He has been in movies three of which he starred: The Luring, Team Marco, and Divided By.

Meet Jake Katzman. As impressive as his résumé is, he is genuinely unaffected by his fame. A funny, relaxed and compassionate young boy from Brooklyn, New York, started singing and acting professionally at the age of 6. He has done singing voice-overs for different projects.

musivv reached out to get to know more of this incredible young man and his journey so far.

For those who do not know please introduce yourself.

I am Jake Katzman, I am a 14-year-old professional actor/singer/songwriter who has been on Broadway, films, and television. I was on Kinky Boots for over 3 years. I worked with Brendon Urie, Billy Porter, Glenn Close, and James Franco to name just a few. I have a new movie being released called Maturna in upcoming the New York City Tribeca Film Festival.

To sing and play to audiences

Who inspired you?

My family was always singing and playing music. I grew up listen to all kinds of music. My grandfather sings and plays a few different instruments. I would sing with him at the piano. There are videos out there on social media of me singing and playing Billy Joel’s at a very young age.

What is your biggest dream as a singer?

I would love to sing and play live to audiences all over the world in big venues!

What genre of music would you want to be known for? Or are you still finding out what direction you’re going for?

I am constantly evolving. I started creating beats by incorporating real instruments in the music. My music influence is hip hop and R&B. Before my voice changed it was more pop.

How do you balance life?

I get involved in school music programs. It is important for me to get good grades.

If you were to choose only one, acting or singing?

I have been very lucky. Some of my acting projects in Movies, TV, and Broadway showcase me singing. I haven’t really had to choose. However, I am constantly creating music in some way. Like making drums beats in a restaurant waiting for my food. My knife and spoon become my drumsticks (laughs).

What message would you generally like to sing about in the songs you write about?

I have written songs about school shootings, immigration, bullying, and even about crushes to name a few subjects. Now I write about self-empowerment, social interactions, and just fun topics.

If you will be granted one superpower, what would it be and why?

I would want to have healing power. I see so many people in pain physically and mentally I would like to make them feel better.

What do you aspire to be someday (apart from being a professional singer/actor)?

I want to be a director and go to NYU. I like to create things and learn everything I can. I am 14 taking college classes in engineering and music theory.

Favourite movie?

My favorite types of movies are any kind of horror movie. I like the suspense and trying to figure out what’s going to happen before the scary parts happen.

I want to be director someday

What's your biggest accomplishment/award so far?

My biggest accomplishment honestly is having opportunities to sing and act. I am blessed to be in award-winning movies in film festivals. I received young artists' awards way back.

Any message you want to say to your parents?

I appreciate my parents for allowing me to be me. Thank you for supporting me and keeping me on the right path. They raised me to be kind, grateful, giving and educated. I owe them everything!!!
