Anthony Tchilinguirian goes by the moniker AJT's latest single called 'Planet Of The Apes' explores and carries on his fondness of metaphors and schemes as lyrics take the front seat in all of his tracks. This single 'P.O.T.A' portrays lyrical capabilities and tongue-in-cheek meanings with a unique concept and themes alluded to in the original Planet of the Apes movie.

AJT collaborated with Nishan and MJeezy, both very talented UAE-based artists, pushed each other to get the best out of one another throughout the making of the single. Each brought their own flavor to the song that complemented intricately. Proud of the result, Anthony boasts that "this is one track that everyone should definitely check out."

How has the pandemic affected you as a person?

Despite the difficulties the pandemic ensued on the world, including me, it was a blessing in disguise for me. It was a time for self-reflection and personal growth, particularly in regards to my music. Having been forced to be home, I got to spend quality time with my family and found the time to focus on the passion I’ve always had.

POTA is one track that everyone should definitely check out!

Please tell us about yourself. Your musical journey etc.

For as long as I remember, I’ve been writing lyrics as a way to express myself and like to push the boundaries of what I can do with words. Doing so for over a decade, it’s safe to say I always had a passion to rap as I tackle different topics and state my opinion in the universal language of Music. While I recorded some tracks in the past, it was only during the lockdown that I moved from the pad to the microphone and it’s been a steep learning curve and a very interesting journey so far.

Among the established artists in the UAE, who do you look up to and wish to have a collaboration with.

There are a lot of talented artists in the UAE, and I made great tracks with some of them, and am currently working on new collaborations. I like the idea of working with artists that bring something new to the table, and that is not limited to rappers. For example, one of my latest singles 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' is a collaboration with the incredibly talented soul artist Arqam. This track fuses a romantic rap topic with a jazzy and soulful vibe, and we are both very proud of how it turned out.

Would you rather have a million dollars but not living your passion, or the other way around?

Very interesting question, I would surely go with living my passion. Money comes and goes but doing what you are passionate about is what will ultimately stay with you forever.

What's the core message of your music?

Perseverance, triumph, and pride no matter what we face in our lives. It’s to be myself and never feel obliged to conform or compromise my integrity and identity. I believe my music says what most of us have in mind but don’t necessarily say it out loud.

Knowing what I the key to success

How important is self-awareness in what you do?

Highly valued. It’s a large reason why I welcome all feedback, particularly constructive criticism. It keeps me humble, as well as focused to always improve. Knowing what I want and how to achieve it is the key to success.

Outside of music, what is something you do that helps you escape from the busyness of life? Sports? Acting?

I find traveling a great refresher for the mind, body and soul, as I explore new cultures, take on new experiences and broaden my horizons by meeting new people. I’m also an avid reader, horse rider and numismatist; all of which give me a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
